\"Supermoto\"Supermoto is the name for the type of racing originally created for the ABC television network Wide World of Sports by promoter Gavin Trippe. The first Superbikers event in 1979 brought together motocross, flat track and road racing disciplines on a track that included all types of surfaces at Carlsbad Raceway, in Carlsbad, California. It was a kind of all-star event that later became popular as a new type of racing, especially in France where the name Supermoto stuck.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of the riders used modified motocross bikes with hybrid road racing tires that are smaller in diameter than a standard motocross bike. The sport became popular in the US again in the mid-2000\u2019s with several high-profile racers competing in the AMA Championship series as well as Supermoto events included in the X Games.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, you can buy Supermoto specific race bikes like the KTM 450 SMR Supermoto and Husqvarna FS 450 Supermoto. There are also street legal models inspired by Supermoto bikes including the Suzuki Suzuki DR-Z400SM. Ducati Hypermotard, Kawasaki KLX300SM, KTM 690 SMC R, Husqvarna 701 Supermoto, GasGas SM 700 and even the electric Zero FXS.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
